 What to Expect

Our "Why We Worship" points will allow you to become familiar with what to expect during our services.

* Why do we worship God?  "Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve." (Matt 4:10) "O come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our maker." (Psalms 95:6) "For all nations shall come and worship before thee." (Rev. 15:4)

* How should we worship God? "But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in Spirit; and in Truth; for the Father seeketh such to worship Him.  God is a Spirit; and they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and Truth" (John 4:23,24) "O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness." (Psalms 96:9)

* Why do we stand?  "And the Levites...stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel with a loud voice on high." (IIChr.20:10) "After this I beheld, and lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindred, and people, and tongue stood before the throne of the Lamb, clothes with white robes, and psalms in their hands; and cried with a loud voice, saying Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb." (Rev. 7:9,19)

* Why do we clap our hands?  "Clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with a voice of triumph." (Psalms 47:1)

* Why do we lift our hands?  "Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the Lord." (Psalms 134:2) "I will therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting." (I Tim. 2:8)

* Why do we have audible praise unto God?  "By Him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name." (Heb. 13:15) "And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory and honor and power, unto the Lord our God." (Rev. 19:1) "And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying Alleluia; for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth." (Rev. 19:6)

* Why do we dance before the Lord?  "Praise ye the Lord.  Sing unto the Lord a new song, and His praise in the congregation of saints.  Let Israel rejoice in Him that made Him; Let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.  Let them praise His name in the dance;  let them sing praises unto Him with the timbrel and harp." (Psalms 149:1-3)

* Why do we sing in tongues and in English?  "For if I pray in a unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.  What is it then?  I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also:  I will sing with the spirit, and I sing with the understanding also." (ICor. 14: 14,15)

* Why do we pray with laying on of hands and anointing with oil?  "They shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."  (Mark 16:18) "Is any sick among you?  Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. (James 5:14)

* Why do we have speaking in tongues and interpretation in the church?  "Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues." (I Cor. 12:7) "But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.  "To another divers kinds of tongues:  to another the interpretation of tongues." (I Cor. 12:10)  "I thank my God, I speak in tongues more than ye all."  (I Cor. 14:18) "If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret." (I Cor. 14:27)

* Why do we prophesy?  "But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort" (I Cor. 14:3) "follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy." (I Cor. 14:1)

* Why are musical instruments a part of the worship service?  "Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet:  praise Him with the Psaltery and harp.  Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; praise Him with stringed instruments and organs.  Praise Him upon the high sounding cymbals." (Psalm 150:3-5) "And I heard a voice from heaven; as the voice of many waters...and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps" (Rev. 14:2)

* Why do we receive tithes and offerings?  "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.  (Mal. 3:10) "Give and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom." (Luke 6:38)
